marcelino!
This is one of my favorite rappers from Michigan, so check this out!
1. Introduce yourself and your music style.
My name is Marc "Marcelino" Russell. Born in Pontiac MI. But Flint is where I feel at home the most. I label my music reality rap for a simple reason- I spit about the everyday struggles I experience or witness in my environment. I'm from a poor, drug addicted background and I've lived through some rough shit, that's why you'll never hear me brag about flashy things like cars or jewelry, that just wasn't apart of my everyday life. I represent the struggle and the grind of the people out here trying desperately to survive.
2. Who is your favorite rapper(s) and how did they affect how you rapped?
My all time favorite would be the Houston native z-ro, his music taught me that you can be yourself on a song regardless of what other people are doing or saying on records at the time. You don't have to follow trends or mainstream success, Just be true to what you do and do it to your full capability. As far as lyrically, I look up to MCs like Joel Ortiz and Eminem, But I was raised of gangsta rap 2 PAC, Ugk, Scarface, Master p, Snoop, Dayton family, Esham, and mc breed.
3. A lot of older rappers like to bring up the new generations lack of free styling and battle rapping, what's your feelings on the subject?
Every generation has its own definition of what's cool or acceptable in hip hop. We didn't do things the same way the guys before us did and I don't expect the new rappers out here now to do the same things we did, I will say battle rap is still alive and doing very well right now. You got all these different leagues out now that fully understand the culture and promote the hell out of these talented people. I wouldn't step in the ring with the top battle rappers out now- They go hard.
4. What's the most important parts of your music? lyrics, beats, or flow?
The most important part of any music I think is the mood it puts you in, the beat has a big part to play in the song but a wack rapper can destroy a bangin beat, but also a dope rapper can transform an OK beat into a dope ass song, the right combination of all three can make a track people will vibe to forever.
5. Any new albums coming out soon?
Yea I have been working on new music a lot lately. Should have something for the people to bang this summer. The last CD had big name features like lil wyte, project pat, and big smo. The new stuff I'm focused on in house production and working with some local legends, there will be some surprise guests too so look out for that and go to datpiff.com and look up made 4 this and trap addictz thery're both free downloads right now.
6. How can a white boy get ahold of your music?
Look me up on datpiff.Soundcloud or my YouTube channel, I'm always dropping remixes and freestyles in between albums. Www.Facebook.com/therealmarcelino will point you my way as well.
7. Anyone you want to have a colab with?
It would be dope to get on a track with kirko bangz- feel his shit a lot, Or some tight MI rappers like Royce the 5'9 or danny brown but all time dream collab would be with z-ro
8. Well it looks like a good time to wrap it up, any last word or advice for a person starting out?
Yeah man, Be yourself and work hard promoting yourself or brand, the days of a big label finding you and doing most the work are about gone. Do everything you can to get heard and to get your name recognized. The rap game ain't just a lifestyle its a career but only if you make it into one, keep grinding and keep looking for new ways to expand your product. This shit ain't easy and it ain't for everyone- but if you keep pushing you'll find your lane.
